Adventures of the Inked and Feral: Episode Two

Twil & Nox of Inked & Feral Farm

A Whimsical Hunt To Capture Magic Under The Stars

“Come back here!” Twil shrills into the cosmos, trying to just catch one idea. “Gotcha!”

The sparkly idea is new and glimmering like a star in the darkness. And then another shoots by.

Twil yelps, releasing the one she has by accident. It shoots across the lake to hide in the reeds. “No! Oh, no! No, come back! Come ba-a-ack!!! Lemme save you!!!”

“Problems?” Growls Nox from the dark.

Twil sighs, her own shimmer fading in depression as she sinks to the base of the dark tree, the guardian of the lake. “Ideas are hard to catch… Why are they so hard to catch?”

“Because you're chasing them, of course. They think it's a game.”

“Well aren't you Mr. Smarty pants?” Twil muses as Nox curls around her. His fur is rugged and warm from his run as he transformed into a more human looking state.

“I never understand why you insist on catching them with your bare hands anyways. There's tools now, you know?” His arms wrap around her securely, a chaste kiss to her temple has her smiling, leaning back into his chest.

“But that takes all the fun out of it. You see?” She points to the shooting light balls, darting to and fro across the darkness.

“Well, this isn't working, perhaps try a new tactic?”

“Distraction?”

Nox smirks wolfishly. “Usually works for me.”

“You know, I think I liked you better when I thought you were a wolf.”

“I am a wolf, you silly fae.”

Twil looks up at her counterpart, ice blue eyes and dark hair, wild from his run. He dips his head to nuzzle her cheek. “How is it you look so scary, but can be so gentle?”

“Is it distracting?”

“...maybe.”

“Is it helping?”

Twil smiles as she lifts her hand and the shimmering idea lands on her fingers, light as a butterfly. “....may-be.” She sing-songs.

Noz chuckles softly as he brings up a hand to cradle them, protective and awed.

“Gentle, my beast. Gentle.”

“If I am the beast, does that make you the beauty?”

Twil stops, a mischievous glint in her eye as she clutches the shimmering new idea to her chest. “Is there no beauty in beastly things? Is there no beast in beauty?”

“Root certainly thinks so.” Nox muses, watching the scowl twist Twil’s lips like a briar vine.

“Don't talk to me of Marrow, his duckies are on my list, eating all my beauties. Root must have a plan to get around the roots rotting in the darkness where the light dies, but she's yet to fill me in on it. Some of us need these sparkly shinies. I can't do much if they're eaten by her horrible dwarf’s duck army.” She pouts.

Nox leans back on his arms to smile down at her, tucking a stray bit of hair behind her ear. “Oh, you like Marrow, he's funny.”

“Horrible dwarf. What she sees in him… I'll have my revenge.” A quick kiss has her rising from the grass of the lake.

“Oh, this side of you, it does remind me of feral things.” Nox stretches to join her. “Will I see you again?”

“Soon. So very soon.” Twil goes to her workshop, the idea in her clutches. “I have work to do…”

She takes a jar from the shelf, and places the glimmering idea within and puts it on her desk with a few others. They glitter and sparkle in their own light as Twil stands over them, examining her collection.

Slowly she picks up the new and one that looks a little dingy, old. She’d held onto it for a long time. “I think… I can work with this.” Carefully, she tips the old into the new and the two ideas swirl and combine, creating something new, unexpected.

Twil smiles, eyes alight with new miracles as she picks up the pen she uses to wield her magic. “Yes… this will do nicely…”

Her eyes go to the walls where the idea in the jar casts its new light. Ships and ball gowns and herbs dance along the walls.

“Yes…. A beautiful new story to come… Root will be so proud!”
