We here at Inked &Feral LLC are a small independent company with mixed desires. If you see our goals and our pitch deck, you might be rather confused. But, I would like to share the bridge, if you’re willing to sit for a moment.
While I, myself, have never been published, I’ve come close quite a few times, so I understand the frustrations that come with trying to find the right fit. My favorite medium is screenwriting which brings its own challenges, but novel writing is my first love.
I got started as most young girls do- fanfiction. Which should not be knocked, because what is fanfiction if not the basis of all storytelling. Stories were once told under starlight and around campfires before they were ever written. The very stories that we know about today are most likely those that were versions changed through generations of those that were passed on before.
Even the Grimms Brothers wrote fanfiction. The basis of fanfiction is the fantasy of ‘what if.’ Dante’s Inferno is a self insert of a man going to hell to find his beloved based in catholic mythology. The world was set, he just needed to insert himself into it. A lot of movies are fanfiction- one or many peoples visions of ‘what if’ was applied to an already written story. All of Marvel Cinematic universe is a giant fanfiction. All parodies are fanfictions. Any movie based on books is, itself, a fanfiction.
So, don’t knock the world of fanfiction.
But, I digress. That’s not the point of this post today. That’s just my origin. I’ve grown since then to building my own worlds- and man, what a pain. I have to think of everything: culture, mythology, warfare tactics, plant life, what they do with trash, etc. every aspect of life. It is much easier to just plop a character into a premade world and work with rules that are already predetermined- but what fun it is to build a world from scratch!
Much like the business I and my associate are building.
I always thought it would be amazing to be able to bridge the gap between real life and fantasy- and I know I’m not the only one, because of my partner, yes, but also because there is such a thing as medieval fairs and LARPing.
We wanted to create a place that can help not only erase the fears of publishing that first book, but also a place where writers and lovers of every genre can come together with some real world experience. We want to bring a little magic to our very real world.
That’s where the bridge comes in. Once we manage to get the land and build the resort, we can have writers and real world teachers, conventions for every situation from learning how to homestead and living off grid to mystery dinners and fantasy galas and everything in between.
WE can bridge the gap between fantasy and reality with learning how to apply such real world things to build your own fantasy world. WE can help you with real world applications so that you might be able to bring a little magic from your own worlds into this one.
That’s the dream anyways.
Let us learn together, let us bring a little magic back to our world.
Let's be feral!
Thanks,
Jen Wright
